Here is an interesting project of two brackets designed to mount a compass to a 100ft laser measuring device for the back-yard surveyor.
Two inexpensive items:The Compass andThe Laser Measure
This project attaches these two in alignment leveraging the ability to precisely measure distance to compass angles. Great for fences, property boundaries or the measurement of angles at a great distance.
The bracket is mounted forward of the tripod mount which should allow mounting to most tripods but if your tripod head is large, you may need a mini ball head for clearance.
