This is my second draft of a customizable polyhedron connector generator in OpenSCAD. I first modeled these in Inventor (see screenshot of tetrahedron connectors made for 1/4" wood dowels). Now this has been generalized into a parametric model in OpenSCAD. At present, the code creates connectors for the 5 platonic solids, the Rhombic Triacontahedron, as well as regular right prisms with adjustable base polygon order. A number of dimensions can be modified (length, internal and external diameter, base height, hole shape, hole depth, edge fillet radius, expansion slot dimensions, and base height).
Next in the queue is to incorporate options to create polyhedron connectors for Antiprisms, and a rhombic dodecaderon. The Archimedian solids, are also on the list, but are a bit more challenging.
***Note this is still a work in progress and will likely evolve as more shapes are coded in.
The option for selecting vertex number currently only matters with the Rhombic Triacontahedron, as it has 5-way and a 3-way connector. Vertex number will come into play when other polyhedra with multiple vertex connectors are coded.
Tolerance Gap also does not function yet. Stay tuned!
play with the other features and see what you can make! Any suggestions or requests?
