These files allow the user to construct a simple (flat) plate and frame heat exchanger. I use this model to demonstrate how P&F heat exchangers work in my chemical engineering Heat Transfer course at Villanova University.
To prepare your own exchanger, you will need to print:
1xTop Plate
as many middle plates as you like, but I would recommend at least 3
1xBottom Plate
The ports should tightly fit tubing with 1/4"OD 1/8"ID, but you may want to use a zip tie to prevent leaks. Speaking of leaks, I have also included a template for a gasket that can be used in between the plates. A variety of materials can be used for the gasket, but I've had success with Parafilm. You will also need 12x 1/4" bolts with (wing) nuts to keep the plates together.
Note: Keep in mind that the material you use to print these plates will determine the maximum temperature of your hot stream. For example, I use a hot stream with an inlet temperature of 40C (and ice water as a cold stream) to make sure that the plates don't warp or melt. That temperature difference is still sufficient to show significant heat exchange.
