The old town Bangkok area (Phra Nakhon District) used to be surrounded by a protective wall. Fourteen forts or guard posts were erected along these city wall. Of the original 14 forts protecting Bangkok only two survive; Fort Phra Sumen in the northern corner of the district, and Fort Mahakan in the east of the district. Phra Sumen Fort was built in 1783 when King Rama I moved Siam's capital from Thonburi eastbound across the Chao Phraya River to Bangkok. Major renovation was performed by the Department of Arts in 1981 in celebration of Bangkok's 200th anniversary. #Ancient #Bangkok #Fort #Historial #Post #Thai
