Easy to print mount that will allow you to hang a spool up to 2kg and 9" total diameter. The bearing spool guide included is for 1kg 60mm thickness spools with a 32mm diameter hole. With the spool rotating in the same direction of the feeder, it allows for a better feed and reduced stress on the feed motor. The mount just slides right on the original spool holder and sits inside the lip at the end.
All you need other than filament is a regular old wood pencil, a couple of skateboard bearings, and a washer (optional).
The reasons I chose a pencil for the main support is because:
-Fits inside skateboard bearings perfectly
-Most people have one lying around somewhere
-High bending strength compared to most printable materials
-Decreases printing material
Cut the pencil to about 117mm (4.6") if you are going to use the spool center provided. At this size, it will be hidden if you use the caps. A classic 6.7mm thickness pencil fits snug inside the holder.
I printed this using the same filament in the pictures, AMZ3D ABS. I set a light raft, everywhere supports with 10% fill, 15% part fill density, 0.1mm layer height, 0.8mm shell thickness. You may want to increase the shell thickness on the mount to 1.0mm or so because the surface is a little rough looking on my part. The mini's heated bed tops out at about 75°C, but I set it in the .gcode at 85°. It seemed to be fine other than a little bit of raft peeling.
The MP mini is kind of known for its cantilever x-axis already, so this cantilever-supported spool mount should fit the theme rather well!
