This is an experiment creating a parametric tatting shuttle in OpenSCAD. My grandmother is a keen tatter, and would like me to try replicating the design of some of the shuttles she uses.
This device uses the Splines for OpenSCAD library here to produce smooth curves over the body:

The shape of these things is terrible for 3d printing - can't print on any angle without support material. You'll want to print with some form of removable or dissolvable support.
