Parametric Enclosed Drop In Spool Holder (v2) by Desert_Hobo

While inspired by the Spannerhands spool system, I wanted something a little different so I designed my own enclosed spool holder system (https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:2872673). Then I designed this!
Just like my previous design, I designed this to be parametric, but this one allows the ability to just drop a spool (no spool core needed). This includes 4 separate mounting positions for the bearings, but you can probably get away with two on each side.
I have included two different ways to print the base which holds the bearings (selectable in the .f3d file as well).
The first is a single piece “No Assembly” base which will require supports for the bearing mounts when printing, and depending on your tolerances, may be difficult to place the bearings on the mounts.
The second is a multi-piece "Some Assembly Required" (SAR) base and will print without any supports needed. This will allow you to print the Bearing Mounts separately, place them in the bearings outside of the spool holder, then attach them with screws through the outer shell.
And, there is a spot to stick your desiccant packets.
To customize the size or options of the spool holder, open the .f3d file in Fusion 360, Click on "Modify" and select "Change Parameters". You can easily change the following settings:
MaximumSpoolDiameter (185 mm minimum, or the hinges mess up)
SpoolWidth
WallThickness
StandardOrMetric
AssemblyRequired (Toggles between the 1 piece base and the base with detachable mounts)Then just re export the .stl files and print :)
Parts:
Base and Lid - sized for 200 mm x 70 mm spool (customizable in .f3d file)
TPU Seal - (size will auto update if customized)
Latch - print-in-place hinged latch or some-assembly-required latch
Bearing Mounts - separate printed bearing mounts for the "Some Assembly Required" base; attachment hole based on StandardOrMetric setting.
PTFE Coupler - m6 or m10 threads (have also included a m10 swivel coupler) Necessary Hardware:
m10 or m6 PTFE Coupling (your Preference/Availability)
4 to 8x - 608 bearings
4x - m3x12 button head screws if using the Some-Assembly-Required LatchPLUS
Default standard/imperial config (cheaper for me) -
2x - 1/4-20 x 3/4in Machine Screw
2x - 1/4-20 Nut
10x - #4 x 3/8in Pan Head Sheet Metal Screws
8x - #4 x 3/8in Pan Head Sheet Metal Screws if printing SAR baseOR
Alternate metric config (customizable in .f3d file) -
2x - m6x20 Machine Screw
2x - m6 Nut
10x - m3x8 Screw (or m3x12 + m3 Nut)
8x - m3x8 Screw if printing SAR baseUpdates:
5/9/2018 - Initial Upload
5/20/2018 - Fixed error in width calculation (accidentally left in extra padding from previous design; was 10mm too wide); redesigned bearing mounts; made a few other adjustments to various measurements to get a better fit.
5/21/2018 - Modified the PTFE Swivel Coupler to be easier to break free
