Paciente8159's CNC probe
This is my take on a CNC probe with some special features which are:
No electronics. This probe has no special built in electronics, contact PCB nor electronic circuit (you can add one it if you want to)
Everything can be either printed or purchased at any convenience store
No tuning. This one relies on small magnets that perform a constant and even downforce. No need to to tune the spring strength
Different types of tips can be used and changed easily (ball, conical, etc)
I've tested my probe and the repeatibility test yield a 6 microns (and that is because my CNC resolution is 6.25 microns soo it is good :-P)
Additional materials needed
3 x 5mm diameter 16mm long shelf pins
6 x M4 domed nut
24AWG stranded wire (the internal conductors of an Ethernet cable will do)
1 x M4 nut
2 x 20mm long M4 threaded rod (one is screwed to the probe top lit and and the other to the contact part holding the shelf pins and half the magnets)
6 x 5mm diameter magnets (I used strong magnets)
Something to act like a probe tip (Dremel accessory - 7103 Diamond Wheel Point for example)
(optional I don't use them)
6 x 4mm long M4 screws (for keeping the domed nuts in place and bite the wires in place)
3 x 25mm long M3 screws (to tighten the enclosure)
3 x M3 nuts (to tighten the enclosure)
Tools
a plier
a M4 tapper (for helping screwing the two 20mm peaces of threaded rod)
The pictures are pretty self explanatory.
Place the wires under the copped nut and press them in to place. Short two pairs of nuts and leave two wires (that will act as the switch pins) under each remaining nut.
When in rest the shelf pins will close the circuit and the "switch" is closed.
If any thing touches the tip and one or more of the shelf pins stop making contact with the domed nuts the "switch" will open.
