This is a buffer for a sound card based oscilloscope such as Xoscope. xoscope.sourceforge.net/
It gives you and your laptop some protection when using the microphone input for an oscilloscope. However, as I did not design the original circuit, and I am not an electronics engineer, I do not take any responsibility for the safety of the device. Blah, blah blah.
I used all through hole components so old farts with poor eyesight, like me, can assemble it without a microscope!
The circuit design is not my own but modified from the official xoscope hardware page. xoscope.sourceforge.net/hardware/hardware.html
The original circuit was for inserting into a desktop computer case where 12v+, 0, and - are available from the power supply.
I needed to be able to use it on a laptop so the circuit now includes a voltage converter to give 12+, 0, and - from a 12v DC power supply. (Wall wart).
I included the BOM however, the slide switches for the 1x, 10x circuits are something I had laying around so I used them with short wire connections to the circuit board. Something like this. http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/55-Pcs-4Pin-3-Position-SP3T-Horizontal-Latching-Micro-Mini-Slide-Switch-/331613843158?hash=item4d35b9aed6:g:ZjwAAOSw32lYuJgE
I elected to solder the output shielded cables directly to the board rather than use the RCA sockets.
The enclosure was printed in ABS and uses 2 screws to retain the lid.
The copper etch files are included for both "toner transfer" and
"photo resist" processes.
If there is enough call for it, I will get a small batch of boards professionally made and make them available for those who don't wish to etch there own.
