One of the focal points for the inmafous mission in 1993 depicted in the movie 'Black Hawk Down'. On October 3rd 1993 the US military launched a 'routine' manouver into Mogadishu to capture key figures of the Habr Gedr Clan. They were inserted near this hotel. The mission went horribly wrong resulting in the loss of 18 US Rangers and Delta soldiers and over 1000 Somalis.
