The Northrop (now Northrop Grumman) B-2 Spirit bomber project began in 1981, after two years of framework design of an Advanced Technology Bomber which would contain stealth. After selection, for seven years, was secretly being developed and built in a former car factory in Pico Rivera, California. On November 22, 1988, the project was declassified when the first B-2 Spirit was rolled at at the United States Air Force Plant 42 in Palmdale, California. Originally 132 bombers were to built before cut back multiple times to 21 due to the collapse of the Soviet Union. One bomber crashed after a malfunctioning flight system. The crew members survived during a prior ejection. The B-2 Spirit is planned to be replaced with the B-21 Raider (also designed by Northrop Grumman). Landing gears done by Willage..
