Model of Rice barn, northern Thai vernacular architecture. Rice barn (Lhong-Kao),an example of Thai traditional architecture in northern region. It is used for storage grain. Typically,the building made of timber structure,upper ground,and roofs by shingle or clay tile. Upper level uses for keeping grain which divides in to 2 parts for keeping deferent type of grain. In the past,rice barn was built in front of the main house to show an economic level of the owner. Some were decorated because the rice was an important thing which related to the life and believe. Due to people use animal cart for transfer grain to the building so,the building has no stair. This also uses for protect from the thief. Rice barn now is rarely to find. Most of them were pulled down when the owner build a new house. Some were sold and moved to hotel. This one was built about 70 yeas ago and has reconstructed in 2000. It located a Rat –U-Thid road Muang Chiang Mai,Thailand.
