What a perspective bender this was... It looks great as a painting but trying to recreate it in 3D is practically imposible. I first researched the painting to find where the actual diner was once located and it turns out it's in Greenwich Villiage, NYC, NY located on a vacant lot now known as Muiry Square. The brick building in reality in 60 feet across the street, not nearly as close as it appears in the painting so I had to move it closer. You will notice the perspective of the lower floor of the brick building doesn't match at all. Fixing the perspective of that would mess the diner up which is the focus of the painting. Because SketchUp doesn't allow for more than onelight source, there was no way to light the walls of the diner correctly. The shading of the dark colors of the painting get washed out so I compensated by using variations of color. I honestly bit off more than I could chew with this challenge. In order to finish all of the details I'd need more time. TIP FOR VIEWING: Resize the SketchUp window so that the viewport is almost twice as wide as it is tall to match the aspect ratio of the original painting. #3d_challenge_084 #Nighthawks
