15-04-2020 Update: Added a 2nd version with opposite mounting hole positions for the Nema23 Motor. Please check the screw position of your motors and select the right model before printing.
These are back covers for Nema 23 and Nema 24 motors. Features include a wire channel and cover, a mount for a 4 pole ~16mm connector, cover of the rear axle (if present) which keeps it from rubbing on the wires.
The package includes the following motor covers:
Nema 23 (56.4mm motor diameter) e.g. 23H276-28-4B
Nema 23 cover with straight connector
Nema 23 cover with a 90 degree angle connector
Nema 23 cover with a 90 degree angle connector - Large version with more room between end of connector and cap making it easier to screw the connector in
Plus an option 2 for motors with the mounting holes in opposite corners.
Nema 24 (60mm motor diameter) e.g. 24H290-35-4B
Nema 24 cover with straight connector
Nema 24 cover with a 90 degree angle connector
Nema 24 cover with a 90 degree angle connector - Large version with more room between end of connector and cap making it easier to screw the connector in
The caps are secured to the stepper with 4 M3 screws.
Installation of the connector: fit the cap and route the wires through the connector hole, cut the wires to the correct length (tip: coil the wires inside the cap to get some additional length), remove the cap, route the stepper wires through the connector nut, after that route them through the hole in the cap (from the inside to the outside naturally :-) ) solder them to the connector. Place the nut over the connector hole and screw the connector into the nut (though the hole in the cap).
For the small 90 degree version this can be a bit tricky as you need to ensure that the wires inside do not twist around each other or the connector. Tricky but doable as you only need ~2 turns of the connector for it to sit tight. If you want more room to do that more easily, print the large version.
Have fun.
