Object of this challenge are the thermal coatings of the Orion module and the Cobra MRV shuttle.
Assumed that the coating of the shield of Orion is ablative type, technology known from the Apollo capsule and having seen this video:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?time_continue=4&v=4ep8WEQ_tRo
I thought there was little to add to the technology already known, the novelty would be to apply the coating with robots instead of manually.
As you can see in the video, the necessary hardware is simply a rotating platform and the latest generation of robots. The real problem is to write reliable control software to maneuver the robot to operate faster than manually, compared to six months now needed to fill the thousands of cells.
So I preferred to imagine a manipulator to maneuver the shuttle.
From the documentation that I found on the net I understand that it will be covered by SIRCA-15 ceramic tiles that still require peripheral sealing, so in order to do this I thought it would be better to do this sealing slurry deposition in favor of gravity rather than under head. So I have provided a special transport vehicle with individually pivoting wheels to move the shuttle in the various work stations and mounted over circles so that it can rotate in favor of the robots.
The small video illustrating the rotation is this: https://youtu.be/k-dhxknOMYk
