This is an OpenSCAD script written together with my daughter (aka Burrito Sunshine) to learn programming in a fun way in preparation for Winter 2019 !
The script takes the different letters from a string that you provide and prints them at a 45 degree angle with a mirror reflection. The letters are printed progressively farther away from the central hexagon and progressively larger. The arms are then repeated 6 times, 60 degrees apart. The snowflake is a fixed size, so the letters in longer strings are closer together and create a pleasant overlap.
Avoid using lower case letters like 'i' and 'j' because they generate a dot that is not likely to be connected to the flake. Play with the name printed backwards, or with upper case letters substituted for lower case ones. Occasionally, some letters won't be connected, but we're working on debugging. In the meantime, play around with the letters and their order. Lots of fun!
I printed these in Clear PETG and they scatter light wonderfully.
I have provided two example .stl files that use the strings 'Santa' and 'atnaS'.
Have fun!
