What is it?
This is a tool to ease installation of a new front main seal on the crankshaft of a Mazda Miata.
How do I use it?
There's a few designs like it floating around, but essentially you'll carefully line the seal up, making sure to lubricate things with a bit of oil, slide this tool up against the face of the seal and use the crankshaft bolt to slowly force the seal squarely into the bore.Warning! This tool won't stop at the proper distance, it's up to you to make sure you only push the seal in until it's flush! Read the service manual!
Keep a close eye on the seal as it needs to go in straight. Due to printing tolerances, the driver can tilt while in use, so keep an eye all around the seal as you drive it. It can be used with gentle taps of a hammer as well to straighten things out if they become crooked.
What's it for?
This tool should work on all 1.8L BP engines. The crankshafts are pretty much identical in all of them.
Anything else?
Basically, needed this tool since I'm rebuilding my NB2 engine and instead of buying one and waiting forever for it to arrive, decided to just make one using measurements from my engine and seal. I hope someone else finds it useful!
