This ia a 1 cm thick case to replace the standard thick design of the Mocrosaft 3000 /pro webcam. A fine compact HD(720p) webcam which you can still buy for under 25 euro. I like this cam because it works ok in most os-s like raspbian on PI, linux, freebsd. Incuding reasonable quality sound.
This one is running for monitoring print-jobs on my Wanhao D4. To get it working i mounted a Pi(1) plus a cheap icidu usb2 hub. On the Pi i installed Astrobox (great render service).
Everything is powered by adding 2 Traco powerconverters (whatever input to 5v 1A max).
See photo's. The traco power converters are not cheapest you can get (9 euro) but don't need extra cooling or condensators for noise etc.... so you can safely solder them on a wire from power supply to input on Pi or other 5v device... easy.
The powerconverters are mounted on the psu next to the Pi (with the ASTRO sd).
Make sure when printing a full printbed the carriage is not touching the camera. When your printer is assembled like mine the end-stop for Y-direction leaves a space of +/- 12 mm! between platformguides and carriage. So i can reach all without a collision.
Too check go to jogmode in menu and move Z (bed) to top and home the X and Y. After that disable the steppers and move the carriage along cam by hand.
