This is a remix of the accredited file, which was originally for paint pots. I have being looking for a method of storage for my ever expanding 28mm mini figure collection. I have tried magnetic trays as well as home made and commercial foam systems, and each has its own issues as well as not insignificant costs. 24 Sept 2018 - I loaded an .stl of a smaller tray to fit printers with smaller beds; it measures < 180mm in length and width, and it titled tray x 36 as it fits 36 figures per tray half.
I didn't find anything quite suitable on thingiverse but then saw the base paint pot file. i was planning on mounting these on the hardboard sheet off a "Dollar Store" clip board, which measures 12 " x 9". This was to fit into the Sterilite 15 qt./14 litre snap lid container.
I reduced the height to 8mm, and made the sheet to fit six rows of eight 27.25mm recesses. I oversized the recesses to allow for overhanging flock etc. After printing off a few sheets I found some figures where i had been overly generous with the flocking didn't fit easily so I did a second sheets with 29mm wide recess. I suggest you try the 27mm sheet first and if any figures don't fit try the 29mm.
you need two trays per sheet of clip board, each tray holds 48 figures so you will be able to store 96 figures per layer and I use a 1" soft foam sheet between each row. Two rows per container works great. You don't want to overdo the container size- the two rows of almost 200 figures is heavy (if you concentrate metal figures, which I do)
I epoxied the two trays (which lock together to the hard board and made sure it was flat and centred on the hardboard.
The figures are intended to be a little loose; but they are secure. The set up allows you to scan your minis to select the specific figures you need to build you Army lists.
