Believe it or not, this thing started as a study for an RC model airplane. I was trying to design a removable motor mount, in order to be able to load the battery from the front. The whole skeleton of the plane will be 3D printed and covered with Ora Light iron-on foil (and will of course be published here). My design of a bayonet connector ended up well overdone for a 500-700g (100cm wing span) plane. So I tried the other extreme and designed a very light weight bayonet, which proved to be absolutely sufficient.
In order to make best use of the development time that I had invested already, I added a little bit of design around it, and here we are with this cute little container. When printed at 100% scale, the diameter is 40mm.
The container lid closes very tightly and locks well in place, due to a tiny thread-like design at the end of the bayonet mechanism. This gives the outside of the container a very smooth appearance without any visible gap, while at the same time creates an almost water tight seal.
The mechanical margin between the lid and the pod is tested to work well when printed in PLA, but I would guess it fits also well in PETG.
Have fun with it, whatever you chose to put inside. As always, post a make for us others, pleeeeeease!
