I make a lot of small handmade items that require quite a bit of sanding. Holding small pieces of sandpaper is difficult and to try to get a backing for the paper is even more difficult. After a long bout of sanding metal strips for making pen clips I came up with this idea. The basic design is similar to several others already done with the caveat of being able to use the precut 1" roll strips sandpaper. The sanding blocks use the common 1" strips of sand paper that comes in rolls from any of the big woodworking stores, Amazon or eBay. Just cut a 5.75" long strip and install it into the block. You're off and sanding. These blocks work well for jewelry making, model building, pen making or any other craft that requires hand sanding of small items.
Each block requires 2 each of 8-32 1/2" screws and nuts. I heat/melt the nuts into the base of the block, cool and add a drop of thin CA glue (superglue) to the sides of the nut to prevent it from working loose. Stretch the paper taught into the clamp and tighten screws.
I print the blocks at 100% infill for maximum strength and at .15 (preferably) or .20 layer height for added strength.
Please post any questions or comments and look at my other designs.
