Metamorphic rocks have been transformed into another type of rock by heat an pressure. This was a mix of gravel and clay and was subducted about 60 miles South East of San Francisco only to rise up in Livermore maybe six million years ago. The rocks were thermally stressed and the clay matrix was probably orange hot, transformed into a ceramic/cement, fused, cooled, and cracked. This is by the Greenville fault not far from where oil was discovered in the 1850s. - Metamorphic Rock Face - Buy Royalty Free 3D model by John Toeppen (@toeppen)
