This thingy made of brass nozzle, stainless barrel (also called thermal barrier), aluminum heater block, aluminum heatsink and aluminum mount plate. Heating element is 6mm x 23mm 40 Watt heater cartridge. Thermistor is pre-glued with GB Weld inside brass hex M-F M3 stud, thermistor is equipped with JST connector. Thingy can be assembled or taken apart in one minute without glue or kapton tape. Everything is screw on-off.
Based on Makerbot Stepstruder Mk7 hotend. Nozzle has Makerbot's modern Mk8 geometry, 0.4mm orifice diameter, but slightly larger than Mk8 outer hex size (7.9mm instead of 6.5mm because it was machined in USA from inch size stock). SS thermal barrier also similar to one used in Stepstruder. Part of the credit goes to Makerbot, which is why I call it "MB".
Finally, as of Dec 2014, this hotend with improvements (PTFE lined barrel and fan with shroud) is available for purchase herehttp://www.ebay.com/itm/221613331858http://www.ebay.com/itm/221650302463
