The city of Venice also includes a portion of dry land constituted by Mestre, Marghera and a series of neighboring communes. It appears therefore clear that the relationship between dry land and water is goes seen to the light of the relationship among Mestre, Venice and the territory. If of the rapidity is kept in mind with which Mestre is grown and matured, it is inevitable to wonder what the possible reasons for such development are. Mestre can be seen how 'substitution' of Venice as the new city of dry land that it assumes the functions of the old historical city in a physical environment tuned up better to the new technologies of transport and building. Venice can be so sight how the 'historical center' of a city vast than tracima from the dry land and to which the bulkiest functions are assigned: the I bring, the industry, the aereoporto, the residential districts in which to entertain the strong demografic increase of the area. Mestre appears as the area of expansion of the city centered on Venice, a sort of 'outskirts' that only for the natural impediment of the lagoon it directly is not neighboring to his/her historical center. At the same time the growth of Mestre can be interpreted as an aspect of the general industrial and urban development of Veneto. Mestre becomes center endowed with proper functions, connected to the diffused industry in the surrounding country and in direct competition with Padova and Treviso. The project in the historical center: What had always been a territory tied by mutual necessities and dependences (The historical center, its lagoon and its hinterland) It is exploded in so many diversified realities in contrast among them today. Venice is constituted by two urban polarities: the city of water and the city of dry land. These two cities are almost grown in conflict, using that lagoon on which both lean out (and what it would have had to unite her) as element of division. The purpose of the intervention is that to attenuate the conflicts and of riconnect the different parts of which the territory is constituted. You tries to create an integrated urban system, to horse among lagoon and dry land, in which every part results necessary to the other and constitutes an assistant value of it. This Project has been developed for the laboratory of urbanistic planning (2005-2006) held by the prof. Pini in the Faculty of architecture Ferrara. The authors are Giacomo Minelli, Giulia Ghini, Elena Munari.
