Ever wanted to install speakers in the rear doors of your Mercedes-Benz W124 Sedan without cutting any holes?
Look no further!
Theese models fit perfectly and simply replace the ashtrays in the rear door cards!
Parts required:
The two models
3D-Printer
2x 10cm Speakers
Printing instructions:
Print the two models with the flat side facing down, for the first one, the clips should be facing upwards, while for the second one, the side that you would see in the car should be facing upwards.
The first model has some clips that have to be able to bend slightly without them snapping off!
Note: The two models included are for the RIGHT side! To print them for the left side, simply mirror them before printing.
Assembly instructions:
Once both the parts are printed, take your 10cm speakers and snap the four screw tabs off of the actual speakers frame.
Depending on the speakers you chose (we used the Kenwood KFC-S1066), you might have to remove the two rings on the bottom of the second print.
We were able to keep them.
Place your speaker inbetween the two prints and after making the speaker straight and horizontal, screw the two halves together from the back using the four screw holes provided in the prints, thus clamping the speaker inbetween.
Installation:
Firstly, remove the original door card ashtrays, by pressing them DOWN while they are open and then pulling them open further.
Then, using a screwdriver, carefully remove the black housing that the ash tray fit into from the door card.
you should now have a hole that you can see inside of the door through.
Route your cables (you might have to remove the door cards for this) and then wire up the speaker.
Once wired up, tilt it slightly about 15° so the top of the print (that has the round angled part on the back side) is closer to the door than the bottom.
Maneuver the speakers magnet behind the edge of the hole, and then from the top to the bottom, snap the assembly into place with the four clips.
There you go!
Have fun and enjoy the new soundscape in your W124!
