A small printed fan duct for the hexagon hotend (all metal hotend needing an always on fan for cooling the hotends heatsink).
I am using a Mendel90, this fan duct is mounted on the left side of the x-carriage between the rods. No modification required for the x-carriage, you only need to drill a single 3mm bore. The fan duct ist attached using an M3 screw from the top of the x-carriage (see last picture). inside the duct, there is a nut trap for an M3 nut.
The fan duct needs to be printed standing on the fan mounting bracket (tilt the stl in your host software before slicing/printing). The fixed support structure (see stl rendering) on the fan intake side needs to be removed after printing.
I am using this fan duct with a 40mm 12V fan, in fact with the fan that was part of the hexagon kit. The duct is long enough to reach quite close to the hotend. For my setup, this works really well, there ist no heat intake from the hotend into the x-carriage or the extruder - and my extruder is printed in PLA!
This fan duct is used in conjunction with my
Mendel90 nozzle fan duct (90/360 open, for hexagon hotend)
and is designed to fit smoothly on top of the nozzle fan duct.
The cutout at the top of the fan duct (towards the hotend) is for the extruder mounting to still be accessible when the duct is mounted (see 3rd picture).
