This is a set of hub adapters and anti-flip brackets to use RadioShack Mattracks on Tamiya CC-01 and Traxxas TRX-4 Trucks.
In addition to the models provided here, you need
a set of Radio Shack Mattracks :-) These seem to be getting scarce, but still show up once in a while. I found mine in a clearance bin.)
4 m4x35 cap screws. I chose stainless.
4 m4x20x6 couplers. The actual diameter of the ones I used is 5.53mm flat to flat.
permanent threadlocker. I used loctite 262.
Cut the heads off the cap screws and thread one about 5mm into each coupler, using thread locker to ensure the screw doesn't move once set. These will become hub/axle extenders.
The CC-01 anti-flip brackets do not allow any rotation. The TRX-4 ones allow 20 degrees. After using both, I think some rotation is better than none, but 15 degrees would probably be enough. Regardless, both work well.https://youtu.be/aFM_Hqwqlgchttps://youtu.be/IG6aqrLhf2U
I printed the hub adapters in PLA and it seems to be holding up. ABS should also work, but you do need a rigid print as this part adapts between the hub extender hex size and the existing hole in the tracks. It has to hold up to the torque of driving.
The anti-flip adapters can be printed in any material you choose. I used PLA for the CC-01 in the pictures, and Cheetah TPU for the TRX-4. I prefer the TPU for the set that allows some rotation so there is nothing hard banging against the ends of the diff or steering knuckles. I'm less concerned about that for the zero-rotation ones, but if I make a set of limited-rotation ons for the CC-01 I will use TPU.
I designed all parts with an allowance of 0.4 to 0.6 extra sizing to allow for shrinkage and test fit everything for PLA. If you print ABS or other filament you will need to scale the prints accordingly. PLA should work as is with no scaling. TPU also works without scaling.
