The mammoth is an extinct relative of the modern elephant. It was huge, reaching a weight of up to 12 tons, and not very large, up to 900 kilograms. Mammoths spread widely throughout the available territory thanks to their thick fur and hump with nutrients, which allowed them to adapt well to life in harsh climatic conditions.
Mammoths were herd animals, led by an experienced female. Females and young animals lived in the herd, and adult males were loners and came to the herd only to mate.
