This is a two channel (I,Q) magnetic tach for the popular 755 and 775 dc brushed motors. It is very low cost (less than $1), will operate at very high RPM, and provides accurately phased, glitchless I and Q outputs. The same design approach can be used to make an incremental panel mounted encoder for digital control. A more thorough pdf file is included in the files, along with the Solidworks source file.
Revisions:
11/12/2017 uploaded revised pdf, with minor spelling and wordsmithing changes,
11/15/2017 After playing with the parameters, I find scaling on the magnet circle diameter doesn't work well, and the generation of the magnets for appearance doesn't work with different values of N. For the latter, just disable that feature. For the former, I'll work on a version that makes it easier to change the magnet circle diameter.
11/18/2017 Replaced the Solidworks file with a revision which greattly improves parametric range. Magnet circle diameter can range from 24mm to over 50mm with proper result, and magnet generation is fixed.
11/19/2017 corrected file name on Solidworks file to correctly reflect the magnet size
