Instead of having to stock a specific length timing belt, a bulk supply of open belt material is kept.
The belt is threaded around it's path then cut to the correct number of teeth required.
The clamp is then lowered to trap the ends of the belt to the pulley.
The clamp also acts as a cam to trip two limit switches that detect 90 degrees of shaft rotation.
