Remix of the Collapsing Sith Lightsaber (Removable Blade) by 3DPRINTINGWORLD
I wanted to make it smaller to be a keychain - so i removed some blades, now only have 3
then i needed to add closures to the back ends of each blade so that they cant slip forward over each other
when the lightsaber was pointed down the blades would automatically extend so i shortened the blades slightly to make a chamber to glue in some magnets/steel sheets then added a pushbutton at the back to easily release the magnets (see pictures)
This was not easy to scale down due to the gap tolerances, i ended up printing the blades twice making adjustments - in the end this worked for me - this is not to say that it will be exactly correct for each printer.
This one printed with not adjustments, but my first attempt the blades simply slid right out, so what i did was heat the short end of the one it would fit into then while the plastic was still soft pushed the blade into the other to as far as i wanted it to extend and rolled my fingers on the soft plastic to make the closure small enough not to let the inner blade out. - This didnt look too bad as the gap was only the tiniest bit too large. That said hopefully this one works for others as well.
i printed mine at 0.2mm layer height, everything printed without supports except the smallets blade closing cap - it has a small rim that i figured i would just add supports too.
lightsaber and blades are printed standing up.
