The final design project for MCHE 470 was to model an assembly with eight unique parts using SolidWorks. To do this, we needed to apply the knowledge gained throughout the semester. Some of the features I utilized in my project were the use of mirroring, constraining sketches, and assemblies. After modeling the necessary parts, we needed to create a motion study of our project.
I chose to use a LEGO X-Wing fighter as my model. This LEGO assembly is model from the X-Wing Fighter from the movie Star Wars. I created all of the parts within SolidWorks and began creating an assembly. The X-Wing requires a total of 37 pieces to build, however, 10 of those are unique. There are two sub-assemblies within the X-Wing fighter, the four wing assemblies and the cockpit assemblies. The X-Wing allows for the wing assemblies to pivot about the LEGO Plate 2x1 w/ Stick parts and the LEGO 1x1 Holder. The linked video displays a rotated view as well as an exploded and collapsed view.
