This is a Tagart fort, built by the Biritish in 1939 following the arab revolt's in palastien. in 1948, as the British forces left Israel, and the sate of Israel was declared, the fort was transfered to the Jordainian Legion, as it was in Jordan's teritory. As the war of Idependance broke between Israel and the Arab nations around, the fort was used to shell Israeli cars and workers on their way to Jerusalem, thus impossing a siege. Durring the war, two attempts where made to conquer the fort by the newly formed IDF, both failed with many cassualties. Withe war's end, and the road to Jerusalem secure, the fort remained a Jordainian stronghold overlooking much of central Israel, ocasionaly shooting at farmers and cars. With the break of the Six Day war, the fort was finally captured by the IDF, along side east Jerusalem and the whole of the west bank. Today, this massive fort is home to one of the worlds bigs tank & armour museum with a collection of about 150 tank and armoured trucks, including all the Israeli armour from every war, and a collection of world tanks and tanks siesed from enemy forces. please comment me.
