A couple years ago I have made Land Rover Defender by Spone. It has a 3d printed transmission and was very weak. Now we have a lot of cheap chinese models like WPL, MN90 and much parts. But this project too small for this parts and I made some modification and 3d models for WPL parts.
There are a shorten WPL axles and central tranfer gearbox.
Partlist:
WPL Metal Gear Bridge Axle Set
WPL B-1 Driving Box Motor
WLtoys 1/18 A949 RC Rally Car Right Wheel 2 PCS
Wltoys A949 Rc Car 1/18 2.4Gh 4WD Rally Car Left Wheel 2Pcs
10pcs 623ZZ 3x10x4mm Ball Bearings Shielded Radial Ball Bearing
3 mm steel rod
M2, M3 screws, nuts
I have used plastic driveshafts, but its not strong and I recommend buy this
3PCS Metal Universial Drive Shaft
Print axles body twice and shorten WPL axles from long side. Just remove plastic end from rod and saw off 15 mm. Add some notches by cutting tool on rod end and mount plastic end with super glue.
Gearbox and gear must be print twice. Insert 4 bearings 623zz into gearbox body. Cut some axles from 3 mm rod. I made it from long M3 screw and not measured length. Add some nothes and impale gear on the rod with superglue. Assembled gearbox mounted on the middle of chassis with hot glue.
Plastic driveshafts I have mounted on the rod using superglue and baking soda. But if you have steel shafts, just screw it with thread lock.
WPL gearbox mounted on chassis in suitable place. Because on front I have a 18650 battery, I placed WPL gearbox on a chassis's rear with hot glue.
I made leafs by myself from stainless steel with Dremel tool.
Wltoys wheel has a larger hex mount and I made hex adapter.
