Toolik Field Station's Lab 6 is a research area. Scientists in this lab are exploring how the timing of plant growth and nutrient uptake affect soil nutrient availability, and how this in turn affects the activity of microbial decomposers and soil CO2 efflux. They measure how the following variables respond to altered snowmelt timing and warming: plant leaf expansion, flowering, senescence, root growth, and nitrogen content; soil nutrient availability, microbial biomass, and enzyme activity; and ecosystem respiration. #Institute_of_Arctic_Biology #Toolik_Field_Station #ToolikGIS #University_of_Alaska_Fairbanks
