Kungsbrohuset is Jernhusen’s latest contribution to Västra City – an expanding cityscape changing the face of Stockholm. A new urban train line, Citybanan, is already at planning stage, while the area around Central Station is under development and several new office buildings are rising on the Stockholm skyline. Kungsbrohuset is not just going to be energy efficient; in a broader sense it is going to be eco-smart. That this unique building will be certified according to three environmental classifications is secondary to the fact that it will have the least possible impact on the environment during its entire lifetime. To clarify the environmental benefits of Kungsbrohuset, we describe them under three headings: the eco-smart building, an eco-smart everyday and eco-smart location. We challenged ourselves, our architects and our engineers on every detail of the building – “Is there a more environmentally-friendly alternative?” – both on the everyday operations of the building and our prospective tenants’ everyday use of the building. Our commitment to the environment means that the building is cooled by the waters of nearby lake Klara, that as a tenant you will be offered coordinated supplier agreements to contribute to a lower emission of carbon dioxide from road traffic and that the stairwells will be lit by natural daylight via fibre-optic cable, just to name a few examples.
