Cherry Street Lift Bridge over the Keating Channel (also known as the 'Keating Channel Bridge'). At the west end Cherry Street, a single sided drawbridge crosses over the Keating Channel channel. This drawbridge is rarely ever used for ships. Due to disrepair, this drawbridge underwent structural rehabilitation in 2007 at a cost of about $700,000 to ensure it's survival into the 21st century. The half-century-old bridge, which is operated by the Toronto Port Authority can handle about 50 tonnes. The Keating Channel, over which this bridge crosses, is a short waterway in the inner harbour of Toronto, Ontario on Lake Ontario. It connects the Don River into Toronto's harbour. The channel is named after E. H. Keating, a city engineer who proposed the creation of the channel in 1893. The channel was originally built to connect Ashbridge's Bay to the harbour and the Don was later diverted into the channel, and its mouth filled in.
