The ‘Cape Oosterend’ or ‘Iron Cape’ on Texel is an iron seabeacon and in that function as a prominent landmark a beacon for sailors. In 1854, the cape was designed by architect Quirinus Harder who worked as an architect at the Office of the pilotage. It was designed as a fireless beacon and was only at daytime visible for shipping. The cape formed together with the church of the Reformed Church in Oosterend a beacon line for shipping in the eastern part of deTexelstroom. Near the cape was in 1843 a short time a port. Due to the increase of nightly navigation on the Texelstroom and capricious conduct of the fairway, in 1977 the beacon line was moved to the north (the current location). #cape #Kaap #nederland #netherland #oosterend #q_harder #texel
