Joyner Building

The Joyner Building was built in 1913 to serve as the main building for Western Carolina University. It served as the administration building for the campus from 1913-1960, and at times housed the college's Auditorium, Classrooms, Library, Science Department, and School Store. Additionally, the local Elementary School was housed for about a decade in its basement. The building stood on a hill in the historic section of campus, and was the oldest building on campus from 1939 until its destruction by fire in 1981 while awaiting renovation. Today, the site where the building once stood is the memorial to the building, Joyner Plaza.
