Jack-o-Lantern

The Jack-o Lantern named for the character Stingy Jack who twice bested the devil effectively trapping the devil on two occasions. Jack was barred from entering heaven by god and hell by the Devil was on his passing stuck in a earthly purgatory for eternity alone. The devil tossed a coal up from hell to jack who carved out a pumpkin to carry the coal with him and light his way as he wonders the earth and this is why the carved pumpkin is called a Jack-o-Lantern.
