The IXL Development is the recycling of some of Hobart's oldest Heritage listed waterfront warehouses into a new 5 star hotel and an associated retail and office precinct. An important part of the project was the inclusion of a large toroidal glass roofed atrium on the hidden rear side of the development, but it is the side which gets a northerly exposure and hence direct sunlight and warmth. The atrium has become a new cultural precinct for Hobart, In addition it is the way that the old warehouses are heated using fresh air warmed to the correct temperature naturally by the Greenhouse Effect within the atrium airspace.
