This is a design that I have started now in CAD though it was started in my head a long time ago. I will continue to update this as I continue with the model.
The impeller fan is part of a parametric design project of a water jet pump. I have been playing with various design concepts to see what is necessary to model various fan blades as ideally as possible all while maintaining the flexibility of parametric modelling. It is 90mm in diameter.
This was the first fan type. It was inspired by the CFM Leap engine blade design. Of course not to any standard that replicates even a smidgen of the time and energy that is necessary to produce such a wonderful piece of work that is the Leap Engine.
All of the blades that I will upload will designed on the basis of being able to be fabricated from a 3 axis mill/router setup with the end goal to manufacture the blades from recycled HDPE plastic.
The purpose of the fan is to pump water. Which this blade is not designed for. The ultimate fan will more than likely have 3 - 5 blades and with a much higher pitch and blade area. This was just a fun exercise to get into the swing of the design, and as well produce some products for the 3D printing community to play with :)
I have not printed it as of yet, only sliced it up to produce GCODE using Cura software. It requires a small portion of the bottom hub to be cut off (use inbuilt function in slicer) so as to begin the blade on the build plate, otherwise you will require some high density support to print the blades properly. From my assessment thus far I am certain it will print nicely given the correct slicing parameters.
Be sure to comment and let me know what you think of the idea. I truly appreciate any feedback given.
