In 1966, IBM released the Selectric Composer typewriter, a highly modified IBM Selectric typewriter producing camera-ready justified text using proportional fonts in a variety of font styles from eight points to fourteen points. It was available in two models – the standard Type 1 with the color coded “Justification Dial” only, located on the right side of the keyboard, and the Type 2, which adds an optional “Velocity Control Dial” to the left side of the keyboard, for use when using Foreign Language or Symbols fonts. Both models are equipped with a unique solvent-film ribbon designed specifically for the Selectric Composer to give clean, sharp, top quality images. This model represents the Type 1 Composer.
