The IBM 1058 Printing Card Punch was part of the IBM 1050 Data Communications System, a multi-purpose, data recording and data transmission tele-processing system introduced in 1962. Communicating over both local and remote telephone lines, this system provided a high degree of input-output flexibility due to the various input-output media available and the numerous system configurations possible. Data was entered into this system by manual keying, by punched cards, by punched paper tapes, and by edge-punched documents, while data output was in printed form, in punched cards, in punched paper tape, and in edge-punched documents. The IBM 1058 Printing Card Punch was a manual keyboard entry system designed to output data to the then standard IBM 80-column by 12-row punch cards.
