Over the vacation I built a set of Arduino based sensors for my Vera home controler. It uses a nRF24L01 wireless device, and overall lowers the cost of a home built sensor to less that $10. You can read more here: http://code.mios.com/trac/mios_arduino-sensor#
This sensor is used with the vera Z-wave controller to automatically turn on the bathroom fan when the humidity goes high.
I created this sensor enclosure to make it presentable for wall mount. This box still needs that added, but it is still very much a prototype towards the final design.
This design uses obijuan's parameterized battery back for power. It integrated well for the 6V I needed to power the 5V Arduino Pro Mini. Please note that the wireless device is 3.3 volts, So, you will need that power regulator that is called out in the mios site.
This design could be used for other non-home control designs. Perhaps just a light prototype box for the Pro Mini.
Have fun! Let me know what you think.
