I utilize an HP T730 in my network as the backup node for my pfSense firewall and my piHole ad blocker. I also wanted to utilize it as the backup point for my main server's virtual machines and data NAS. Due to the small form factor of the T730 a 3.5" HDD will not fit inside, especially when the thin client is already holding a PCIE card.
To alleviate this, I've designed a simple, but nice looking stand that includes legs and a simple enclosure to hold a 3.5" HDD. I hooked the HDD up to thin client by utilizing a SATA to USB3 adapter that is ran to the internal USB 3 port. Make sure you get one that has a DC power supply because the 3.5" HDD requires 12v to run and the USB port will not provide that nor enough 5v power.
There are 3 slots in the top of the mount, this is so the device can be printed flat on your bed. You will want to print out 2x Standard Retaining Bar and 1x Thin Retaining Bar. Push these into the notches on the top and they will fit into the grate of on the bottom of the T730 to keep it from sliding off the feet. The tops of the bars are marked with a recessed dot to easily identify orientation.
You will need to print this with supports turned on.
