Edit 6/19/2017: Don't forget to post your Makes - both successes ("WOW! It fits my headphone/desk!") and failures ("OMG! This piece of crap destroyed my headphones/desk and both are now a pile of rubble!") because maybe we can make a special headphone and/or desk holder for your new headphones and/or desk!
Edit 6/14/2017: So we have another winner! The user @milcent asked for a very specific type of hook for his desk. If you have a desk like milcent's (viewed at this Thing: https://www.thingiverse.com/make:348154 ) you can go ahead and try this hook: 25mm_6_No_Hook_milcent.stl
As always, if you have a pair of headphones or a desk that seems different from the holders and hooks posted so far, please let me know! The easiest way is to create a Make based on this item, and that will get my attention. Share pictures, either of how the hook(s) you tried don't fit your desk, or how your headphones don't sit nicely on the holder you chose. Then, start sharing details: headphone band height, thickness, depth; or how much clearance/space you need. I can tweak the designs in countless ways, but I need your help in making a new version that works for you. The nice thing about the modular system is that if we make a new headphone holder, then many more people can use that, along with whichever desk they have. And if we make a new hook, that will help more people too! But, yes, creating a Make based on this design, showing how the hook doesn't fit your desk, or the headphones don't sit properly on the holder, along with measurements and details really helps.
Edit 6/13/2017: I renamed the Parrot headphone holder test STL file to the Parrot Zik 3, for which it has now been tested on successfully by milcent. (Thanks!) I also renamed the first "no hook" version to v1, and removed milcent's name. We're going to try a new version that still lacks the hook, but has more of a "Z" shape to hold it successfully to a desk. I think the "straight" hook doesn't work properly (in most cases?). Stay tuned! Also, don't forget that if you have a pair of headphones that differs from the Bose QC35 or the Parrot Zik 3, you can take pictures of the headphone headband from various angles like milcent did here: https://www.thingiverse.com/make:348154 , and maybe I can make another custom version! It helps to have the following four pieces of information: 1) Official name and model number of the headphone, 2) the distance in mm from one side of the headphone pad to the other, 3) the distance in mm from the "base" of the headphone pad to the "top" arc of the headphone pad, and 4) the width of the headphone pad. In milcent's make, we had all of those things, with annotated pictures. If you do that, it's a lot easier for me! The best way is to pick a headphone holder that looks close enough to your headphones, and just try them out. If they fit, great! Please create a make here, share pictures of the "fit" and let us know the name and model number of your headphones, because I can always "tag" you and the headphone holders as being tested. My goal is to have a bunch of working headphone holders, which you can match up with any desk size. Don't forget that for small desk size discrepancies, you can use varying sized stickers to "shore up" the difference (if it's too big), and keep it secure, without actually gluing/taping your hook to your desk. Stickers are usually fairly inexpensive, and are made in a variety of sizes, ranging from paper-thin, to super puffy. Plus, if it's a small sticker, you'll never see it, because it'll be on the inside of the hook, so feel free to use whatever!
Edit 6/12/2017 (2): I removed "Bose QC35" from the name of this thing, because I'll be posting a version of the hook sometime this week which works with one of the Parrot brand headphones. The system is modular, so there's no reason to put a brand-name in the name of the Thing, however, there's still the Bose QC35 holder, for sure, and it works great!
Edit 6/12/2017: Created a tweaked version of the bracket with a 25mm opening and no hook - just a straight shot down to the connector. Hopefully this will work for milcent's desk, and then we can move onto the Parrot headphone holder portion!
Edit 6/8/2017: I'll do anything for love, including parametric design! You now have a 50mm bracket to go with your fancy Bose QC35 modular headphone holder. Yay! Notice how my partner has the special edition QC35, and I just have the regular black model? That's love!
Edit 6/8/2017 (2): I just read a review comparing the QC35 (which I own), with the QC25 (which I haven't owned for awhile). They look cosmetically very similar when compared side to side. I imagine this would work. Does someone with a QC25 want to print out of these out and let us know if it works well? I'm going to go ahead and tag QC25, as I can't tell the difference visually.
Original Text Starts Here
I'm going to start things off with a quote from GlaDOS (Genetic Lifeform and Disk Operating System) in Portal 2:
"These bridges are made from natural light that I pump in from the surface. If you rubbed your cheek on one, it would be like standing outside with the sun shining on your face. It would also set your hair on fire, so don't actually do it."
Truer words have never been spoken by a homicidal female IA antagonist. (Or, perhaps, tritagonist later on in the game. Don't blame me, I didn't make the term up, some Latin guy did during the time of the dinosaurs. [P.S. Don't correct me and say that it's Greek and not Latin. You don't think those two languages ever got together and had relations? And dinosaurs ARE real! {Are too!}])
So yesterday, I shared this one-piece headphone holder, hook, thing...that works great for the QC35, but I realized that it requires a lot of supports to print properly. If you're into that sort of thing, he's the original:
https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:2371568
I realized that if I separated the hook from the holder, and attached them with a gravity connector (which the user could glue if they saw fit), I could print both of the items flat on the bed, eliminating most of the supports required. It worked! You'll need a few very small supports, and a little cleanup, but this is far better than the previous version.
The best part? It's modular now. So if someone wants a 50mm hook, I just have to redesign the hook a little, and you can use the same holder! But what if you have a different pair of headphones? You could keep the hook that works for you, and swap it out for a different headphone holder. The combinations are endless! (Although, currently, there is literally one combination as of the time of this writing, unless you consider each piece a separate combination. Then you have three.)
I also figured out that this headphone holder can hold cheap sunglasses (see photo), and maybe you could also use it as a single strand pasta dryer, a rope storage unit, a piece of modern art, or even a very short marble run game! Put the marble at the top, and see which way it goes. Instead of using coins to decide which side goes first, you could just say "call it!" and then they could say "left side!" and if the marble went to the left, they got what they wanted. I don't really understand sports, but I do understand that this is a game changer. Hey, I made a sports pun. I guess I'm a sports expert now.
As always, feel free to drop me a line in public or private. Comments are appreciated, and I can totally make special versions of the hook and the holder. I only have the QC35 heapdhones in my house, so I may not make a new holder anytime soon, but I do have a 50mm shelf, so that's probably going to be the next iteration of the hook side of things.
Stay tuned!
