UPDATE 2: After getting my 3D printer up and running, Gyroscope! has turned out to be quite a pain. It did manage to print, but ONLY WITH SUPPORTS, and after putting it together, it has become a massive failure due to horrible friction in the bearings for no reason. Also, the inner spinner cannot fit inside the frame, so a new file is needed before a successful make can be attempted. I may upload one, but who knows.
UPDATE: After some thought, I've added what I think will make this even better, which is more inertia! A new file has been added called "Gyroscope solid_Nickel Spinner," which allows four nickels to be tightly tucked into the spinner disk (with the convenience of easy removal, as well), adding way more power to the gyroscope. I may upload a file soon with the body and nickel spinner combined, but for now you can add both pieces to your slicer and arrange them yourself in a printable fashion. Happy printing!
I HAVE NOT PRINTED THIS AS OF UPLOADING. My hot end is clogged to kingdom come, and while my new one is on the way, I finished up this redesign of the official TEDCO gyroscope. It's quite a challenging design with all the concentric parts, but I believe this will print without support, aside from a nice brim on the printbed.
Two 608 bearings are needed to attach the spinner to the gyroscope body, and a string for spinning and pulling the gyroscope is needed as well. The dimensions are EXACTLY the right size of the bearing, in theory, but depending on the accuracy of your printer, it might be a tight fit.
Should probably note that I'm also an inexperienced CADder using 123D Design, but I feel like I'm getting pretty good at it, so this might turn out alright.
