The Guqin (literally “ancient stringed instrument”) is a seven string, plucked, Chinese instrument of the zither family. Legendary references claim that it dates back 5,000 years, while it is mentioned in 3,000 year-old written records and has been found in graves from 2,500 years ago. The guqin is a quiet instrument and is therefore commonly played by itself without other instruments.
