Greeting Knob
"Welcome." Or, "Thanks for coming." Either salutation is appropriate with the Greeting Knob mounted on your door. There are two STL format files included with the Greeting Knob: the hand[le] and the mount. The mount is optional, but it enables a conventional door handle/knob to be placed on the other side of the door. Based on your choice of mounting technique, either flush or mounting it proud of the door surface, you might have to adjust the depth of the Greeting Knob's mount by trimming the attachment disc.
An ideal filament for making your own Greeting Knob is one of the many metal powder enriched PLA filaments. For example, the Proto-Pasta PLA metal compositions (proto-pasta.com) would be ideal for this print.
The illustrated handle was printed with Proto-Pasta Aromatic Coffee PLA--yielding a rich warm tone. The orange mount was printed with HIPS.
Vitals
Average print time: 3 hours (handle), 55 minutes (mount)
Supports: not needed
Brims/Rafts: not needed
Print speed: standard (Cura profile)
Software: created with Autodesk 123D Design
The mount might need to be reduced in scale (e.g., 2-3%) for securely holding the knob in place.
When using one of the metal composition PLA filaments, post-print processing might be necessary for obtaining a realistic metal finish. You can learn more about these techniques here: www.lulzbot.com/learn/tutorials/accelerated-aging-your-metal-bearing-3d-prints
NOTE: Greeting Knob is pull handle and NOT an operating cylinder doorknob.
